Jerry, can you let us in on what happened at the meeting? I'm always interested in what was discussed and maybe voted on next year too. All I've heard is no radio communication between driver and crew next year in sprint racing and a few changes with formula 500 based sleds in some classes.
Thanks Greg

That is for sure about no Radio Comunication then? I don't really think its all that bad of an idea to use them. If I'm told that I have lots of room behind me, and I know that I can't catch the guy infront of me, I'm not going to drive as hard as I would if someone was right on my a$$. I agree that they shouldn't be used for blocking purposes, but they use them in all other forms of racing.
Also, anyone know what started this rule?..we didn't hear any complaints about it here on the EPT and didn't get a chance to vote on it for the ISR meeting.

Hey Jeff, speaking about Radio's, I figured you wouldn't want them anymore either.
I thought you getting tired of hearing Howie say " Oh No Not Again"

I'm Really Disappointed With The Decision Not To Be Able Use Radio's,I Feel It Is A Great Safety Issue And Know From Expierance After Using Them Last Year That They Do Work. With Champ Racing Becoming Very Competative It Does Save Accidents With Proof In Canada When Dustin De-raild In Turn One Brad Was Able To Avoid Him Other Wise It Was Going To Be A Broad Side Hit. I Heard Someone On The USSA Board Was The One That Started The Process To Eliminate Them. They Seem To Work In Other Forms Of Racing And For The Safety The Price Of $550.00 Seems Cheap.

Geez Scroggy..I can't say anything on here without you raging on me..haha no worries.
$550.00 is cheap, but alot of us already know someone who hasa set for car racing in the summer, and can borrow them for the winter season at no charge. Thats excatly what I did.

$550.00 is cheap?? what are you guys smoking??
In my opinion, in sprint racing, they are more of a safety hazard then a safety tool. It's really easy to cut people off when you have somebody screaming in you ear that there is a sled on the inside/outside of you.

I thought the F-500 was locked in for 5 years, is that right or not? There was also some talk on here about juniors running the F-500 based sleds, was this discussed?

$550 is cheap compared to the other stuff we spend money on. I agree it is expensive for some of the lower budget classes. Maybe like they have in stock-car racing, only allow it in Semi-pro and Pro-Champ classes.
Chris, as the old "glass half-full, half-empty goes", how many times have you been chopped down on by someone without radios? Having someone tell me that there is a sled inside would make me realize that I have to give that person a little extra room. I guess it depends on the person hearing the radio as to what he does with the info. As it stands right now, we all have someone standing on the sidelines with a set of ski-skins or whatever telling us how much room there is behind us right???? If you don't, you'd be just about the only person who doesn't from what I can see.
It doesn't give you an on-track performance advantage, and if someone is intentially blocking, he will get noticed and will get spoken to. (either by the officals or another drivers fist)

The disscussion about the F-500 stuff was just some grey areas in the rules. Some people read them differently than others did. I think the biggest issue is the steering column rules on what you can move, and what you can't, as well as the shock tower mounting holes (things that were not discovered when the original rules were written)

Opening Statements: IRS set the guide lines for a revote on rules passed. Need ¾ of the folks that where at the meeting to agree to revote on a rule passed. Then it needs 75% of the group for it to pass. Not 51%.
No radios allowed in ovals racing. They were used for the wrong reason (BLOCKING)
Champ class: sled only 375 pounds (NO DRIVER WEIGHT)
New Jr 2 class: F-500 with carb or throttle restrictions 12 to 15 year olds
Sprint class : only Semi Pro Sprint 600 and Pro Sprint 600 dropping sprint 500 as of 2009 - 2010 year.
New tail light recommended for Mod Class Maxima Tail light # M60100R-01 SAE S 212 (3) T01 DOT, battery operated so when engine goes down the light will stay on.
Clutch cover Mod Classes: info, look closer at the side plate, if have room the side cover must be attached to the top cover, not mounted to the side of the hood or belly pan panel. Belted and covered better. Safety inspection requirement.
Lots of talk about going back to OEM stock front and rear suspension. Want more info before changing.
ISR is asking Manufactories to talk about allowing four strokes into Champ and or Open 600 class. What they think is equal and fair.
No titanium springs allowed in Stock class
Allow Stock 600 Fan sleds to run in Limited 500 class
Allow the F-500 sleds to tip steering post as long as they use one of the four OEM holes in the lower bulk head (will need to drill three new holes)
Study the exhaust noise closely. Exhaust is getting to loud, need to get the mod sled quieter.
Allow the stock 440’s two strokes to run with the SS 600 class. Try and get more entries into the class.
Lots of great ideals, lot of rethinking where we want Oval racing to go. Chuck D had a lot of great thoughts, on how to get us back to where we once were.
These were some of my notes taken on Sunday. Make sure you talk to your group to get the official ruling before get mad or start yelling. Could have some written wrong????!
