We feel that with the addition of Friday racing, we have time to open it up. Personally, I think the IWA needs all the racers and fans we can get and the EASIEST way to do it is to open things up at the biggest watercross event in the world. We'll have to see how it goes this year and then we'll move forward.
For anyone who doesn't know, in the past,the IWA limited racers at Grantsburg to people who have raced a sanctioned event within the past year OR raced at Grantsburg last year because we simply didn't have enough time to get the races in. Last year, we put in 2 ten hour days to get the racing in and that doesn't make for a good show. We are hoping that running all of the drag qualifying on Friday afternoon will allow us to put on a good show of oval racing on Saturday and get ALL of the qualifying heats run on Saturday. On Sunday, our goal is to run the Pro Open final at around 3:00 PM while the crowd is at its peak.
Hopefully, we get some new racers and new fans. If not this year, next year maybe?
