The new poly-Chain GT Carbon belt is stronger and will take more shock loading than an 11 wide chain and is easier on the shafts. It will wrap around a 22 tooth pulley.

I have a Gates poly-chain on my super-flow reduction drive, its seen over 200hp and 10700rpm on the primary shaft...the limiting factors are heat and BELT rpm, the longer the belt is the more power you can run thru the same belt...Gates has a cool computer program to calculate the redrives load cycle and gives you a belt that will work.

I have often thought of running twin belts(one on each side of the tunnel)to be able to run a narrower belt of shorter length

Howard, good luck that's a very narrow belt, will be watching this winter how your drive system is working. See you in Beausejour for the December race.

I believe they are available through Wahl Bros, as I think there are several in use on current asphalt sleds. Otherwise try Micro-Belmont. Wahl's would be the way to go for tech support.

Gates is the manufacturer of Poly Chain belts and holds the licence for the Poly Chain tooth profile. Poly Chain belts will not work on HTD or RPP profile pulleys. I know one of the engineers in R&D there and he helped me design our setup and machined our pulleys for us. We can't devulge any of our testing results due to a contractual agreement but I can tell you that Gates is a great company to deal with and they have helped us a lot. We are proud to have them as one of our sponsors. I see good things happening with this technology in the future.
go to http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=7468&location_id=11347
to see info on their latest Carbon Fibre Poly Chain belts
