I dont think going to fast is an issue. We have less crashes today than we did years ago. Heck the sleds handle alot better that is one reason why they are faster. They go faster through the corner so they inturn will be faster down the straightaway.

Shawn you do bring up some good points about why stock 600 verses mod 600. But I will not be for any change that would make any chassis or motor we currently run not legal. We do not need to be making major changes at this time . add the mod 600 and see what happens if a lot of people make mod 600's then after a year or two think about phasing out the mod and stock 800's or leave it with the mod 600/ stock 800 and mod 800 . I also like the idea of surveying fans. They are the ones who pay to watch us. Kenny

Shawn, you make some very valid points, thanks for listing them. I have to agree with Kenny's point about not phasing out anything we currently run at this time though. With the economy the way it is, we need to look at what will be the most cost effective for both the IWA and its members. From the IWA standpoint, we need to find a way for the class to grow in order to support itself. From the racer's standpoint, we need to try to keep away from major changes that would make their current equipment obsolete. When I look at all of these factors, adding the 600 mod option to the class makes the most sense when you look at the big picture.
Steve, I don't think that adding weight to any sled is the answer. I do think that the Ski-Doo's are the easiest sled for a non-experienced person to set up and make work good on the water. In those cases, more HP and less weight make a much bigger difference. What we are talking about primarily is the Pro class and I believe that a good set-up by a Pro level tuner is going to make much more difference than some extra HP or less weight. Maki's are very competitive in the Pro Open class and are running virtually a stock motor and giving up 40 HP to some of the 800 mods.

Sam I know you are laughing but this is why snowmobile company's have the 600 as there biggest seller. People decided the 600's were fast enough.
I would agree with you, but in our trailer are 4 stockers and they are all 700's and 800's so we would quit all together. As Mike D said the money is not out there. The straight 600 program will not work as it takes out to many drivers.

Mike,
Ole's sled ran the best it has ever run in Grantsburg. He had all 1's for the
Sat. program. Sunday he ran Nate or Brian in the quarters or semi's and took a second. He started on the front row in the finals lane 4. Passed Jason but he could not catch Nate or Brian.
He said Dad I just can't catch them. but we had a BALL ...
Steve
One other quick point... Mark made a post about setup on mods versus stockers for semi pro drivers.(which I agree with 100%) If the mod 600's were just added to the pro stock class then that would be less of a point. If the mod 600's blow the stock 800's out of the water then you can change it back. But I really don't see that happening. As Shawn said the HP just isn't there.

I wasn't really serious about the speed thing, I for one do not want to make any current equipment obsolete, like Kenny and Mike say add 600 mod to the Pro Stock 800 class only which gives people the most options on what they can run and when semi pro drivers want to move up it gives them a choices to on what they can run and not limit them to just a stock sled.

Lets get this going again so we can get some things figured out before the meeting. I was thinking about this the other day. To keep costs down and even the playing feild, a 600 mod motor but a single pipe only, stock or after market. My reasoning is twin pipes are not always readaly avalible for some sleds unless they are custom made.

they run twins ole. Bobby a single pipe is not the way to go most of the sno-x motors where ment to run with twins (at least the good ones) the motors have been ported to run twins and the cdi's are set-up for the higher rpms. Speedwerx makes twins for cats, you can get twins from slp and the factory for Poo's and Ski-doo factory has twins for doo's along with d-max and few others. I am also sure rugland will and has made twins for all three.
