It was a pleasure discussing this with you on the phone at length. There is no doubt that your Ski Doo meets all the rules set by the IWA. My point in the post was that STOCK MEANS STOCK. Not Modified Stock. I guess with your many years experience it is relatively easy for you to make a sled work. You must admit you have alot of knowledge and Talent.
The one problem that I have is that you are the exception not the rule. Skidoo is the only brand that makes a good 800. You also have a ski doo sponsorship and acquired your skidoo cheaper than most of us can. Cat and polaris now have new models that are 800 sleds but these are a $10,000+ machines as well Yami makes no such 800.
Everyone touts that this is supposed to be an entry level cost effective class yet no one can afford to compete against you and the skidoos. I am die hard polaris man and have been for 35 years. I can not in good concience support rules that are not Cross brand friendly. You may as well call this the Ski Doo 800 stock class. With your logic of only allowing current models and stock trail sleds AND 800 cc machines, how can you suggest growth. From my perspective you CAN build or buy a CURRENT LOOKING 600 mod for a lot less than a Stock 800 in every other brand. That is my opinion based on my 12 years experience. Don't take any of my opinions against stock but the logic does not add up. The sport needs growth not stale rules that only meet the rules of a few veterans. Look at who successfuly drives in the stock class and then lets talk again. Maybe everyone can come to a balance that works for everyone. Thats my 2 Cents.

i dont always agree with Mosher but i like the idea of running 600 mods in iwa regardless of the age of the sleds . i currently am switching to xp's this year but had my best season ever in 6 , 7 , and 800 pro ovals on zx chassis ski doos. honestly i dont think the spectators care as long as the racing is fast and fun to watch. i am looking forward to coming to grantsburg in the next few years and really want to run 600 and 800 classes. new riders really like the older sleds because they are affordable and competitive. Your experience and knowledge in this sport are without a doubt second to none.
I believe there are 2 points you are missing.
1. This one you can not see...
You could take any brand of stock sled in your garage and when you bring it to the pond and put Chad on it, it will be competitive and it will stay dry. (We were teasing Chad in Wausau it was the mechanic not the driver)
2. This one you do not want to see...
At this point in time, Ski Doo will dominate this class to the point no one else wants to run in it. Only 13 entries at the World Championships and 26 in Semi Pro.
Yesterday I talked to a pretty good Ski Doo Mod builder, Jason Houle... He all but laughed at the comment that any 600 mod could beat a stock 800 Rev. And at this point in time, you also have the best Pro Stock Driver in the world in Chad Maki.
So for a trial period we would like to follow Chad around the pond with 600 Mods rather than 800 stockers.
This is something a lot of people want to try and they would love to have your support.

Like I said before if we are going to gain entries by switching to 600 Mods, I am all for it. Let's hear how many drivers we will be adding by making the change. So far we have Derek and maybe Brian Jr., anybody else??
The problem that I have with the logic that you must have a Ski-doo is the fact that the stock ski-doos that everybody is talking about have been set up by or had a lot of direction from Howie, Andy, or myself. The Mod sleds that we have aimed at the water usually run at the front too. Howie never lost a single heat on his mod this year, maybe we should change the 800 mod class too. If Howie shows up, you know that he is going to win.

In the pro Mod Class I believe the Champion is Brian McCurdy Jr. on a Yamaha and last year it was Dennis Ryner on a Polaris.
Howies Mod sat on the line in the Mod drags final in Grantsburg and it never finished a heat in Frederic oval class.

I am just trying to point out the flaws in the logic that some people on here are using. (The fact that Howie never had his brand new highly modified sled on the water until the Fredric race is why he struggled there.) It is hard to deny that Howie has been a dominate force for many years. He dominated on his Stock ZX sleds before he had revs. He is going to be out front no matter what sled he chooses to tune and ride. The same goes with Andy. He helped set up Brian's stock ZX and it always runs at the front too. Nates sled is Andys old stock Rev. I am just trying to make sure that it is clear that not all Stock revs dominate, it is only a few set up by tuners with pretty successful track records on mod & stock sleds. I thanked Howie a few times for not running in Pro Stock this year. It made the wins come a whole lot easier.

I have heard very good points from both sides to this topic. I will be putting a 600 mod together if this rule passes and running it in pro open and pro stock. (or what ever it will be called) If this rule does not pass then i will only run a pro open sled. So that is why i am for the change i will be able to run 2 classes with 1 sled. I just hope that the 600 mod will run at least close to the stock 800's.
