VILLENEUVE TRIES WATERCROSS…
NORTH-AMERICAN WATERCROSS CHAMPIONNSHIP, 20th Edition

Jacques Villeneuve was invited as the HONORARY PRESIDENT of the 20th edition of the NORTH-AMERICAN WATERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP in Victoriaville Qc, Saturday, August 23rd & Sunday, August 24th, 2008.

Jacques was on site all week-end long and he participated in autograph sessions, but…

As we all know about his passion for snowmobile competition, he wanted to add a new experience to his successful resume…

The experience wasn't so successful…

On a borrowed sled, for the 1st time, he went across the pond but his landing made some spectators very nervous!!!

Then he went back to the pit and decided he would to try oval…

In the 1st corner, as he usually does on frozen water…, he put his weight on the front left side of the sled… It was not a good idea.

Tony Pettinelli will add the photos and you will see by yourself… Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacques has totally recovered from his "2008 winter bad lucks" and he will be ready for the opener in Beausejour.

I remember announcing at Victoriaville when the IWA had the race. Marcel, does that local resident still have the Aqua Car?

It would be neat to see Jacques try the EWA Championships in Elmira, New York in a few weeks!

That is FANTASTIC having Jacques try Watercross.

For some of you that may not know but Scary Gary was once a very talented Watercrosser.

Yoo,

this car was an AMPHICAR. The owner of the car passed away a few years ago.

You can find a lot of informations on that car on www.amphicar.com

"The Amphicar was built in Germany from 1961 to 1968. Total production was 3,878 vehicles. The Amphicar is the only civilian amphibious passenger automobile ever to be mass produced. 3,046 Amphicars were imported into the United States between 1961 and 1967. The Amphicar is rear engined and uses a 4 cylinder British-built Triumph Herald motor producing 43hp. The Amphicar has a top speed of 7 mph on water and 70mph on land. The Amphicar is moved in the water by its twin nylon propellers."

looks to me like Jacques probably got distracted by some scenery on the shoreline! and maybe just lost concentration for a moment?

I wonder if he said the same thing to the girls on shore that he said to the female paramedic at ER a couple of years ago after crashing hard into turn 3 and 4. "I'm fine give me a kiss." lol lol

You know, they say everyone can be replaced, but when it comes to snowmobile oval racing and Jacques Villeneuve, I'm not so sure about that.

It will be a sad day when you look in the pits at the Eagle River Derby Track and the #96 trailer isn't there maybe the odds aren't on his side to win E.R. anymore, but if it is ever won by a fifty some year young man it will him.
He is without a doubt the most exciting driver to watch, when you see that yellow #96 pull down on to the track you slide to the edge of your seat, take a deep breath and say to yourself what's going to happen this time, is it going to be win, break, or crash.
I don't think there is anyone in any form of motorsports that has more heart, desire, and willingness to lay it all on the line to win than Jacques Villeneuve.

Thanks Marcel for the info! Sorry to hear about the owner of the Amphicar.

Is the race still at the same site?

Do you know if Steve and Stu Charity raced? What about Jaws and Rene Gagnon?

YOO,

none of these drivers were in Victoriaville.

We still have a good turn out of drivers and the promoter made some improvements at the same place. Many spectators come with their fifth wheel or RV and stay for the week-end.
