World Champion is a title that can be given to a contesting team/individual/organisation in a sport or other competitive endeavour. To become a "world champion" it is usual for the contestant to have entered, and won, a competition open to all eligible contestants from around the world.
Other individuals or organisations can be described as 'world champion', but this is either simply a matter of recognition of their prowess or promotional hyperbole, without conferring any real status

Well put Howie: but those are pretty big words for an oval racer
And even though I’m in Canada, I picked up on her and her husband’s snowmobiling background and I personally think this is great, it brings attention to snowmobile racing of all sorts.
If he’s really at Haydays that is great, Attention is good / great for the sport!
It shines the spot light on all Forms of Snowmobiling!
Maybe we can start getting F18's to fly over the start of snowmobile races Now!

A week ago very few people had ever heard of the Iron Dog, now it will be the race to win.
Just watch the manufactures jump on this one.
Slow Cross move over because Cross Country is once again at the top of the list for the manufactures.
I bet Todd Palin is God in Theif River Falls MN.

My Wife and I had the chance of a lifetime back in 1995 when Tesoro and the Iron Dog made it possible for us to come up and cover the race. We flew in a small Cessna 180 through some of the most incredible scenery in the world to Nome, landing in places like Puntilla, McGrath, and Ophir along the trail. That was the year Todd Palin won his first Iron Dog driving a Polaris with Dwayne Drake. Todd has four Iron Dog wins one on Polaris and three on Arctic Cat, he has also raced a Yamaha in Iron Dog competition. The manufacturers have always had a great deal of interest in the race. Having seen what these guys go through in actual competition has given me tremendous respect for cross country racing. I have always dreamed of someday running the Iron Dog Trail Class but after having interviewed a lot of these guys over the years I'm not so sure. While they may run at a slower pace the course is just as challenging and not for the weekend warrior.

Eagle River is a cold one, but Alaska is the coldest state with the hottest governor.

If i was going to race snowmobiles, cross country would be my first choice to but not that race.
The one I always wanted to race in was the I 250 from Minot ND to Regina Sask.
Anyone remember that race? It was a 2 day 250 mile cross country and it was all in the highway ditches.

Having raced the 2008 Iron Dog. I can tell you first hand how tough that race is. Just finishing the race is a major accomplishment. I had a lot of respect for all of the Iron Doggers. I have even more respect for them now.
We scratched a mere 350 miles in. As for the weather, nothing stops the race. Except maybe excessive snow fall that covers the trail. The trail, ha, words cant describe how rough it is. Temps try -47F at the Rohn checkpoint the first night. Did I mention there are no roads, the only way along the course is by sled, dog team, and weather permitting by airplane. You are out there pretty much on your own.
Scott Davis and Todd Palin are champions for sure. Scott is tied with John Faeo for the most wins at 7. Not sure on the World Champ thing, chalk that up to PR.
Iron Doggers are tough fo-sho. Im very proud that I at least tried this race.
