How many Champ 440's does everyone predict will be at Eagle River?

Any info yet on what engines P.J. and Cory E. are going to run?

Any predictions on a winner?

I think it is going to be between Brian B., Gary M., Nick V.and P.J. "If P.J. he has a good power plant under his hood that is."

I would like to see Cory E. win it to, as that is about the only race his dad wasn't able to win.

It would be really cool to see the #96 be the first 4 time winner as well, can anyone imagine how excited he would be, he would probably run a couple of more laps on foot with the checkered flag. loll

Dustin Wahl could be in there if he learns when to go all out and when to back off so he doesn't stuff it into the bales like he did on Saturday last year during qualifying when he was a half a lap ahead.

J.V. are you going to be able to run a couple of races and get her dialed in before E.R. this year? How about this year you stay away from the hay bales and the doctors and kiss the trophy girls instead.

That reminds me are the tail lights going to be powered by a battery this year so if the sled stalls the tail light is still on?

Six more Champs over last years numbers in Eagle River. P.J. and Corey will have Hooper engines in their sleds and most likely the old engines and not the lay down engine. I think it will be a Polaris powered sled to win Eagle River this year, as to who wins it I think its to early to tell!! Tail lights must be powered by a battery for Formula 600 class, not Champ 440 but I'm sure most champs will have the new Tail light too.

I built a system for ours that has 2 lights, one powered by a battery pack, one powered by the sled's lighting coil.

I don't think Cory E is running a Hooper Motor. Last I heard, it was a Polaris, not even a Cat Motor.

After what happend to Jacques last year I can't believe anyone would even think about not running a battery powered tail light.
That is just plain common sense, I don't think the weight of a battery that it would take to run that is going to make you win or loose a race, but it might save your life.

It is official. Hoglund Racing is going Green. Arctic Cat has come thru big for our team for the upcoming 2009 season. We are very grateful for the opportunity to join Team Arctic and to carry on their Winning Traditions in Ice Oval Racing.

We are also very excited about working with Hooper Race Engines this year. With John's record showing 5 World Championship motors from 2002 to the present, we feel that he gives us the best chance to win at Eagle River THIS YEAR.

From the East:

We will be there with the #16 Gifford Bros. Machine and the retro paint scheme for Ski-doo's 50th
Samson racing will be there with Aaron Fellows aboard for the full season.
Jason Smith should be there with his new chassis
JV im assuming should be there again.
I would think the Weatheril's would be making the trip with Jason Lavallee on.
Anyone else from the East going? Tony? are you guys going with the new equipment?

to ovals ferever.

Can you beleive the rule that says: mandatory full time on tail light for 600.

I guess the 600 class is the most dangerous class according to what they think! Then all of the other class, according to who ever make or decide about the rules, are really safe class, we don't need full time light ? Come on guys, how can somebodys does'nt think it as to be mandatory in any class, period.

i guess in all of the other class, we do'nt need to see if somebody has a problem and stop somewhere ?

we do race to safe i suppose according to their decisions.

rules are made to be change when they are not safe enough.

we need to be seen, and see when somebody is stop, period.

Just a good comment, i guess.

See you soon, Like Beausejour ?Bye.

Jacques:
I was the one who wrote the rules on the 600 Open at the request of one manufacturer. The 600 Open rule utilized by USSA in the past was very vague and did not have the criteria needed to be a set of rules that could be included in the ISR rulebook. The rules I wrote did not appear at the ISR rules meeting, but were included well after the meeting, again I stress at the request of manufacturers who wished for definitive rules that included a four stroke element along with a two stroke version. The decision to include the functional taillight whether the engine was running or not, was mine. I had proposed the same taillight rule, actually a more comprehensive one, for Champ at the ISR rules meeting, but rescinded my proposal after much discussion and disagreement from various areas. Basically the rule change for Champ needed criteria for SAE specs, illumination specs, and other requirements I could not offer, so I dropped my request. However in being granted the ability to write the 600 Open from a clean sheet of paper allowed me to at least incorporate some of my thoughts.
The original proposal I formulated required two taillights to be displayed at all times, one from the charging system, one from battery power, both LED. My thought was is you lose one you still got the other. I watched too many sleds not able to start a race due to taillight failure, Derek Kumrow for example, whose taillight failed on engine start to go to the line at ER in his class, I watched young Nick Van Strydonk become precariously close to being not able to continue the WC simply because from the time he went to the line to the first restart due to a incident, he lost his light due to a mechanical failure, the only thing that kept him in the race was the fact he started with a light functioning.(per the rules) As race director I could have stopped him from rejoining the event, however the rule as we use it, says if your light fails during a race you are allowed to continue, however think how bad I would feel if something had happened to him. So that's why I asked for a redundant system, reality is when it was presented, some people wanted the specs to validate the system, some folks thought it was too strict, and some folks thought it was too much work. So I dropped it. Don't always blame the rules makers, we realize that each class is dangerous, but reality is some racers don't want to change either. If you would not had your incident, would you have thought is was a good rule?
Best regards,
Korinek

Thanks for posting that Jerry. I now have a better understanding of how it was put into the 600 class only and the way you went about doing it. I think it is a very good rule, something that should be looked at for all classes in the future. I don't know if the LED is the way to go as they don't seem to do as good a job as the bulb style does when looking at it from an angle. The LED is very bright from straight on, but not as bright from the sides. If there is anyone out there that wants or needs a battery system, I have designed a very good, lightweight, easy to use system that uses a Lithium Ion battery. The battery will run an 1157 bulb with both elements illuminated for over 30 minutes before it starts to fade. It was a little spendy, but was very easy to incorporate into the sled and is easy to charge, simply take the battery out and put it on the charger like a cordless drill. Charges in 15 minutes.

If anyone needs help with something like this, let me know.

I've ran a battery powered light for a number of years now and they are great. If something does happen they are easy to fix because it is such a simple system. A light, two wires, a battery.

One thing to be careful of for all you 600 guys is that you need to find a battery that can withstand the vibrations. We had a few problems with cheap batteries not working.
